Julian Casablancas + The Voidz

This is one of the best albums I’ve listened to in a long time. So many good songs on it. Julian Casablancas, the singer of The Strokes, has been improving steadily as a musician. There is a world of difference between the current stuff and early strokes in terms of complexity and musicianship. The album is never going to have the popularity of Room on Fire as it is harder to listen to though. The songs have tons of tension and use aggressive tones, its not one to put on when you want to chill.

The best song of the album is Human Sadness, and it has a beautiful thought provoking video to accompany it. At first I didn’t think much of the song but after watching the video I was blown away by it.

It has a very powerful message about how society has largely become detached spectators. At the end Julian takes off his glasses and chooses to put them back on sinking back into his private world where he idly watches TV in a beautiful setting, representative of modern consumer culture.

Besides Human Sadness, Where No Eagles Fly is my favorite song on the album. All the songs are really interesting though.

I strongly recommended checking out JC + The Voidz
